FAQs
What is an Echo Print?
An echo print is the name of the process I use to create my work. It is a variation of eco-printing where plant material is bundled inside of cloth and steamed or boiled to release the dye found naturally inside the plant. This creates a contact print in the shape of the leaf or flower used.
Using paper instead of fabric, adding different types of dye and mordants, as well as experimenting with layering plants between contact plates of metal and wood, I have developed a process and style of my own.
What type of paper do you use?
I use a variety of 100% cotton rag printmaking papers. Unlike watercolor paper or other mixed media papers, printing making paper holds up well during my processes. It can handle being soaked for long periods of time and doesn’t tear easily. I like BFK Rives, Fabriano, Arches, and Magnani.
What type of dyes do you use?
I use a variety of dyes in my work. I use natural dyes made from walnuts or onion skins. I also use Rit fabric dye. I often mix different dyes to get colors I want as well as adding different dyes during the streaming process.
